Raanana, Israel, May 22, 2023 – DriveU.auto, developer of a software-based connectivity platform for robots and autonomous vehicle teleoperation, today released the Autonomous Vehicle Teleoperation Taxonomy with the purpose of introducing more structure into discussions about this critical element in autonomous fleet operation.
Autonomous Vehicle technology is maturing, and many AV companies are moving towards scaling and commercialization. There are still (and always will be) edge cases the AV will not be able to handle. Teleoperation (remote operations, “human in the loop”, Tele-assist, and other names) enables a remote human to be called upon, supervise and when needed, intervene, allowing AVs to accomplish their mission.
There is confusion in the market about teleoperation – the terminology, what it means when it comes to safety, and how it is performed. With the purpose of contributing more structure to this aspect of the fast-moving AV industry, DriveU.auto is introducing a Driverless vehicle Teleoperation Taxonomy. Based on DriveU’s extensive experience in the field, the Teleoperation Taxonomy clearly defines the different modes of teleoperation and the roles of the remote operator and of vehicle AI.
